Lower CPU utilization - how it works
This guide shows you how to reduce CPU utilization.
Relieve the CPU with the Task Manager
In Windows, Task Manager helps you reduce CPU usage.
- Press the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys at the same time. Then select "Start Task Manager".
- Under "Processes" you will find all applications and processes that your PC is currently executing. Sort the processes according to the amount of memory used.
- You can now see which processes are particularly stressful for the CPU. Close processes and applications that you don't need and that take up a lot of RAM.
Remove startup programs
If your PC takes a long time to start, this is usually due to high CPU utilization. This is caused by auto start programs.
- Click "Start" and look for "msconfig". Open the "msconfig" file.
- A new window is opening up. Click here on "System Start". You will now see all programs that start automatically as soon as your PC starts up.
- Remove the tick from unnecessary programs that you do not need when you start your PC, such as Messenger or clients such as Steam.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to find out how much RAM your PC has.
