CPU fan too loud - what to do?
If your CPU fan gets too loud, the noise level disturbs enormously and the performance can also weaken. In this practical tip you can read what this can be and what you can do about it.
Cause 1: CPU fan clogged
The reason is often simple. It just has a lot of dust on the fan and clogs it. Especially between the fins and behind the fan, a lot of dirt accumulates over time. Even animal hair and nicotine can clog the fan.
- You can carefully vacuum the fan with a vacuum cleaner. Make sure that the fan does not turn against its actual direction of rotation.
- You can also use a fine brush or compressed air to remove the dust on the CPU fan. This method is safer.
- Many laptops have a separate flap on the underside that you can open. So you can easily get to the fan and do not have to disassemble much.
- In this context, also check whether the loud CPU fan is permanently attached or wobbling.
- If your fan is still very loud afterwards, it can also be due to the model itself: Especially the cheap standard fans often make a lot of noise. The amazing thing is that smaller CPU coolers are often louder than the larger models.
- Before deciding on a new fan, you should make sure that there is no other problem:

If your CPU fan is noisy, it may also be doing hard work all the time. There can be two reasons for this: You are overusing him or he is generally too weak.
- You can use the CPU-Z tool to determine the CPU utilization under Windows.
- Open the task manager and check the running services and processes. You may not need many of them. Keep your virus scanner running - malware could cause high CPU usage.
