CPU pin broken or bent - you can do that
If the CPU pin on the mainboard is broken or bent, this can quickly pose a danger to the PC. Find out here what you can do in such a case.
CPU pin broken / bent - you have to be aware of that
Important: When working on the inside of the PC, you must always pull the power plug to avoid getting an electric shock and to protect your hardware from damage!
- First, you should examine the mainboard for other errors. If cables are also defective or several pins are completely broken off, a repair is no longer worthwhile.
- Then you should take a close look at the unit, the best way to do it is to remove the CPU unit by pressing the lever on the side and then slowly and carefully pulling out the unit. Then look at this under a magnifying glass with lots of light.
- We recommend a pencil with a diameter of about 0.4mm for repair.
- However, first remove the lead of the pin so that you can then straighten the bent pins again.
- Then put the pin on a bent pin and gently bend it straight again.
- Make sure that you do not bump, bend or even break any other pins.
- As soon as all pins are straight again, you can carefully insert the unit back into the mainboard.
- Then switch on the PC as usual. If you don't hear any beeps except for the "normal" beep (boot process), you have done everything correctly.
