The terms CRC and SHA are often used in connection with files. You can find out exactly what is behind this in this practical tip.
These are CRC and SHA
The terms CRC and SHA hide procedures for creating checksums:
- You can use the checksum to determine whether the associated file has been changed or manipulated. Anti-virus programs use this procedure to find manipulated files and thus detect a virus.
- You can also use a checksum to check downloaded files. After downloading the file, all you have to do is compare the checksum with the amount provided by the author. This way you can determine whether the file is defective or has been tampered with during the transfer.
