CS: GO - Counter Strike Global Offensive: Activate console
The console plays an important role in Counter Strike. We show you how to activate it and from now on you can type commands directly.
Activate the CS: GO console
By default, the console is disabled for Counter Strike Global Offensive. To activate it, follow the steps below:
- In the main menu of Counter Strike Global Offensive, go to the options and select "Keyboard / Mouse". Scroll all the way down, because the last entry is decisive: Click on "Change" under "Open console" and press "F9". In future, the "F9" key will always open the console. "F9" is a suggestion from us. You can also place the command on any other key.
- If this has no effect yet, switch from the options menu to "Game settings" and make sure that "Yes" is selected for "Activate developer console". Now press "F9" in the main menu, should the console show itself. If this tip also fails, a very last step is guaranteed to help:
- Close Counter Strike Global Offensive and right click on the title in your "Steam game library". Choose "Properties". Click on the "Start Options" button and enter "-console" (without quotation marks) in the empty field. After clicking on "Okay" and restarting the game, the console is guaranteed to be visible. The small but subtle difference: the console no longer appears at the push of a button, but is opened automatically every time.
Even if you haven't had much experience with the console at Counter Strike, you will soon appreciate the advantages. For example, you can use the "name" command to enter a new nickname at any time. In another article we give you 5 more tips about Counter Strike Global Offensive.
