This is what the csrss.exe process does in the Windows system
You may already have noticed the process in the Task Manager. Csrss.exe, or "Client / Server Run-Time Subsystem", does the following in the system:
- Csrss.exe sets up and manages application windows.
- This Windows process starts and ends threads (parts of a process) of a running application.
- In the Task Manager you will usually see at least one process with this name, often several.
Csrss.exe: good process, bad process?
Typically, csrss.exe is located in the Windows C: \ Windows \ System32 folder. If the file is not there, it may be a virus or a worm.
- To check whether the file is in the right place, first open the Task Manager. Then right-click on the process and select the "Properties" option. Now check the path.
- In Task Manager you can also see how many resources the process uses. As a rule, it is a rather economical process. If a lot of power is used, this is at least a warning sign.
- The quickest way to be certain is to check the file online for viruses. After the upload, the file is checked by several virus scanners at the same time.
