If you want to import a CSV file into Excel, you can do it in two different ways. If MS Excel has already started, click on the "File" tab in the top left.
- Here you will find the "Open" command.
- In the next window, find the location of the file. However, make sure that you have selected "Text files (... csv)" for the file type. Otherwise you will only see Excel files.
- Double-click to open the file.

In MS Excel there is also a special function for the csv import. Advantage here: You can use the text import wizard to configure the target format and thus have heterogeneous csv data processed by Excel.
- Under the "Data" tab you will find the item "From text" (see image 1, steps 1 & 2). Clicking on it opens a window.
- Navigate to the location. Double-click or select "Import" to open the CSV file (see image 1, step 3). With this method you do not have to pay attention to the file format. Here it is set up for CSV files in advance.
- Now the text conversion wizard opens. This is divided into three steps.
- Step 1: Most of the information is already pre-filled here. Simply select the line in which the import should begin (see figure 2) and click "Next".
- Step 2: In the next step you have the option of defining line breaks (see Illus. 3). How this works exactly is described in the window.
- Step 3: Finally, you can specify the data type of the individual columns (see Figure 4).
