Update CyanogenMod - how it works
If you want to keep your smartphone or tablet with CyanogenMod up to date, you should update it regularly. We'll show you how it's done.
Variant 1: Update CyanogenMod automatically
- Open the "Settings" app and look for the category "Via phone".
- Under "CyanogenMod updates" you will find the "Update types" option.
- Here it is recommended to select "only stable versions" - especially for laypersons. The "Nightlies" are beta versions that can still contain errors.
- Tip: Install the updates much faster using the free CyanDelta Updater.
Variant 2: Manually update the CyanogenMod
With this method, the update is downloaded manually and installed directly via Custom Recovery. You should only do this if a WiFi connection is not possible.
- Download the desired update from the CyanogenMod website and transfer it to your SD card.
- Press and hold the power button on your smartphone for a few seconds and select the "Recovery" or "Reboot into Recovery" option.
- In Custom Recovery, select the "install zip" or "install zip from sdcard" option.
- If you select the update from the SD card, it will be installed. Then your smartphone or tablet restarts.
- Note: You do not need the "Wipe" or "Full Wipe" functions for a CyanogenMod update.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to end apps faster with CyanogenMod.
