CyanogenMod: WhisperPush - what is it?
The new feature "WhisperPush" has appeared in "CyanogenMod" since version 10.2. We explain what it is and what you can use the function for.
WhisperPush: Secure SMS protection of the CyanogenMod
"WhisperPush" encrypts your SMS messages so that only the intended recipient can decrypt and read the message.
- From version 10.2 the "CyanogenMod" contains the "WhisperPush" feature.
- The technology is based on the popular encryption app "TextSecure". The same developers ("Open WhisperSystems") are also responsible for the variant of the "CyanogenMod".
- Since "WhisperPush" is not tied to a special app, you can use any SMS application and still benefit from the encryption.
- Your SMS are encrypted both locally and during transmission. This means that spy software on your smartphone can only intercept the coded messages.
- In addition, "WhisperPush" works with all "TextSecure" users. So you can also use the encryption if the smartphone runs on the other side without "CyanogenMod". This makes "WhisperPush" compatible with iPhones. Currently, the iOS app from "TextSecure" is still being developed (as of: 04.01.2014).
