Are stoners allowed to donate blood? - Rules and THC testing
Blood donation is not allowed by all groups of people - homosexuals and stoners sometimes have a hard time. We will show you which rules exist and whether the blood is also checked for THC.
Donating blood and smoking pot: allowed and harmless?
- In principle, people who regularly use drugs are excluded from donating blood. Because cannabis is a drug, stoners are theoretically excluded from donating blood.
- Homosexuals are also excluded from blood donation because they belong to a so-called risk group. In practice, however, the ban on stoners is not taken quite so narrowly.
- There are no clear rules. Some doctors don't care, other doctors exclude stoners, other doctors ask for a few consumption-free days before donating blood.
- However, cannabis use is not relevant for blood donation. The THC could be detected in blood donations, but these are minimal residues that do not play a role for the recipient of the blood donation.
- You don't have to worry about yourself as a stoner when donating blood. After the donation, the blood is only checked for the blood group and diseases such as HIV.
In the next practical tip, we will tell you whether cannabis patients can drive.
