Dark Mode for Instagram - all information
If you want to use Instagram in an alternative look, you can activate Dark Mode with a little effort. We'll show you the options for iOS and Android.
Android: Use Dark Mode in Instagram
A dark mode not only looks good, it is also easy on the eyes in the evening. Unfortunately Instagram does not provide an official dark mode -
- If you are using a smartphone or tablet with Android, you must root the device or use a custom ROM such as CyanogendMod.
- If you use CyanogenMod, you can use the free app Euphoria Dark CM13 Theme to cover many different apps in the dark look at once. With a root, this also works with individual apps.
- The first thing you need here is the free application Substratum. With the Swift Black Substratum Theme you can activate the Dark Mode for Instagram, but the app costs 2.99 euros.
- No root or custom ROM is required on Samsung devices with Android 7 (Nougat). For 1.89 euros you can get Substratum on your mobile phone via Sungstratum.
- If your Android device supports a system-wide dark mode, you can take advantage of this. If this is activated, the eye-friendly color scheme is also adopted in Instagram. Whether you can activate a dark mode that applies to the entire OS depends on the settings provided by the manufacturer.
iOS: Activate Dark Mode for Instagram
There is no dedicated dark mode in the Instagram app for iOS users either. As of iOS 13, however, users can take advantage of system-wide dark mode here.
- If you have a version older than iOS 11 installed, you will find a function for the visually impaired in the accessibility that comes very close to dark mode.
- Use the following instructions to activate the Dark Mode from iOS 11. The "Reverse colors intelligently" option shows everything white as black. However, this applies not only to Instagram, but to all areas of the iPhone.
- If at least iOS 13 and Instagram version 114.0 are installed on the iPhone, iOS users can simply activate the system-wide dark mode analog to Android 10. This is then automatically adopted in Instagram.
