Colonoscopy: Eat afterwards - these foods are ok
After a colonoscopy, you can only eat certain things. Before that, you must not eat everything, as you have probably already learned from the doctor. But what happens after the exam is over? We will explain to you whether you can strike again to your heart's content or not.
Colonoscopy: eating what tastes good and does good
If the doctor does not specify anything else after a colonoscopy, you can eat what you feel like after the examination. However, you should hold back a bit at first.
- You will be thoroughly drained before a colonoscopy. That is why it is not advisable to start with a fat pork knuckle straight away. Less fatty and easily digestible foods are better.
- In addition, air or carbon dioxide gas is blown into the intestine during a colonoscopy so that the intestinal walls develop and are easy to see. You will most likely have bloating after the exam. Bloating foods would exacerbate them and possibly lead to abdominal pain.
- Drinking a lot is recommended after a colonoscopy. You have lost fluid through thorough draining. This should be replenished. Teas, still water and juices without acid, such as vegetable juices, are best suited.
- With the removal, the healthy intestinal flora was burdened. To rebuild them, plain natural yogurt without added sugar and fruit is suitable.
- In order to compensate for the loss of salt due to the drainage, you should not forget about salt and spices.
Colonoscopy: Small guide for eating "afterwards"
We have put together a few foods for you that will satisfy your first hunger for a colonoscopy:
- A soup, such as a vegetable broth, is ideal. It provides liquid, vitamins, salts and is also filling. Legumes should not be included - they cause flatulence.
- You don't have to do without deposits: a few soup noodles in the broth provide carbohydrates.
- Cooking some lean chicken with you gives it strength and flavor.
- If you fancy sweets, a pudding or semolina porridge is just the thing for the first hunger. If you like, you can also eat an oatmeal soup with sugar. Your intestines are also happy about a yogurt sweetened with a little jam or honey.
- If all of this is not too hearty for you, there is nothing to be said against bread with lean sausage or lean cheese. You shouldn't overdo it with the butter - too much fat causes problems for the empty intestine.
- You should be cautious with the choice of food until your digestion is restored and you have normal bowel movements. Then you can access it again to your heart's content.
- By the way, donating blood after a colonoscopy is not allowed. We explain why this is the case in another article.
