Playing darts: these are the rules
When playing darts, arrows are thrown onto a round disc. In this article we explain the rules of game variant 501, which also serves as the basis for tournament games.
Rules of the game for Dart 501 Double Out
In this variant, the game starts with 501 points. The points thrown are subtracted from this. The winner is whoever brings the score exactly to zero first.
- The players first throw a dart and try to get as close as possible to the center, the so-called "Bulls Eye". The player who is closer to the center starts the game.
- Now the players alternately throw 3 darts, whereby the thrown points of all 3 arrows are added first.
- In double out, you must end each game set with a double. The last dart arrow must land in the outer rim of the dart board: the fields in this area count twice.
- The segments of the inner ring are called triple and each count three times the displayed number of points.
- The ring around the middle counts 25 points and is called Half-Bull.
- The Bulls-Eye in the middle counts 50 points.
- Once you have determined the total number of points for the three litters, subtract the total from the starting number 501.
- If you reach more points with your last throw than you have left over remaining points, this is considered overwritten. The points remain unchanged and you continue to play until you reach zero.
Different options for darts
The starting point number can be changed at will.
- For example, you can also choose 301, 701 or 1001 starting points.
- If you are a beginner, choose Single Out instead of Double Out.
- Here you can end the game with a simple field.
- The fields Double and Tripple count as for the Double Out.
- In the Master Out version, the game can be ended with a triple or a double.
It is important for this game that you hang the dart board correctly. In the next article we will show you what to look for here.
