That is why clothing sizes vary: simply explained
As is well known, clothing sizes are very different depending on the manufacturer. Sometimes a 38 fits perfectly, another size even pinches size 40. We won't explain why you can't always rely on the specified size.
Dress sizes are different - that's the reason
If there are clothes of different sizes hanging in your closet, it is probably not because your body measurements fluctuate greatly.
- There are standardized clothing sizes and the Germans are regularly measured so that the clothing industry has a guideline. However, there is no legal requirement. This means that every manufacturer can lay out the size of their textiles quite freely.
- The textile industry uses this freedom for various reasons. Not only the size alone determines the fit, the cut also plays a role here. Depending on the target group of wine fashion labels, a dress may turn out very narrow if younger women are to be addressed.
- Some brands maintain their image through their customers. If the clothes are to be preferred by petite, small women, the sizes are accordingly small.
- If you buy fashion from large chains, you have to expect that the clothes will turn out rather small. This is because large fashion groups sell their goods in many countries and are not always tailored to the comparatively large body measurements of German customers.

Differences between sizes
- When shopping in different European countries, the information can vary widely. If a German size 40 fits you, you need size 46 in Italy so that the dress fits. For our French neighbors, this would be size 42.
- The American system, in which clothing sizes from XS to XXXL are specified, has also become very common.
- But there are also differences in the German system. If you buy size 21 women's trousers, this corresponds to the size of a 42, but will be significantly shorter. These are so-called short sizes.
- Fashion from Asian labels usually turns out very small. This is because Asians are smaller and more petite on average than Europeans.
- It is therefore generally worth trying on clothing in several sizes when shopping.
