Disable the dashboard in Mac OS X - Here's how
Apple introduced the dashboard with Mac OS X 10.4. This guide shows you how to deactivate the dashboard.
Disable the dashboard in Mac OS
You cannot uninstall the dashboard, but you can at least deactivate it with a simple terminal command.
- To do this, start the terminal. The best way to find it is to use Spotlight Search.
- Now enter the command "defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES" in the terminal window without quotation marks and confirm your entry with the Enter key.
- Then execute the "killall Dock" command. The dashboard is now deactivated and will not be loaded even after a restart.
- If you want to reactivate it, you simply have to enter the command "defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean NO" and "killall Dock". You can then access the dashboard again.
