Encrypt files: 3 good tools
We show you how you can encrypt files, archives and even partitions easily and free of charge.
TrueCrypt: encrypt files and everything else
With TrueCrypt you can not only encrypt individual files, but also entire partitions, hard drives and USB sticks.
- The program creates virtual drives that are encrypted with 128, 256 or 448 bit keys and can only be opened with the password you have set.
- TrueCrypt is not only easy to use, it also does not need to be installed on your computer via "Traveler Mode".
- Tip: Also download the German language file for the open source program so that you don't have to deal with the English version.
Sophos Free Encryption: encrypt files and archives
- With Sophos Free Encryption, you can either encrypt individual files or entire archives with a password.
- The advantage of the program lies in the integration in the context menu and in many email clients. So you can encrypt your files without detours.
Steganos LockNote: encrypt texts
- Steganos LockNote is a very simple text encryption tool that does not require installation.
- Start the EXE file and you will see the usual text editor. Here you can copy your texts and then save them with a password.
Under Windows Vista and 7 (Enterprise and Ultimate Edition) you can use the already integrated BitLocker tool. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
