Transfer data from PC to PC - this is the easiest way
If you have a new computer or just want to transfer data from PC to PC, there are several options. From Mac to Mac, this is child's play with the "migration machine" - we will show you how it works for Windows computers here.
Data transfer from PC to PC via USB
With the right USB cable you can connect the two computers and transfer the data very easily. Since most USB cables only have a PC connection on one side, you have to purchase a special cable for 10 to 20 euros. The transfer works similar to a USB stick.
Transfer your documents over your (W) LAN network
You can also transfer the data with WLAN or LAN if both PCs access the same network:
- Click the Windows button (formerly "Start") and open the Control Panel. Under "Network" you will find the "Network and Sharing Center".
- Now you have to select the "Advanced sharing settings" in the left column and then click on "Select homegroup and sharing options".
- In the "Public" area you have to switch off the "Password-protected release" in order to enable your other PC to access the transmission.
- Now you only have to release the folders for data exchange: Simply right-click on the folder to open the context menu and activate "Sharing" or "Extended sharing" under "Properties" (see image).
Data transfer with the cloud
Data transfer via the cloud usually takes a little longer: providers like Skydrive offer you up to 7GB of free storage for your data. An overview of various cloud providers can be found here.
