Data recovery with Knoppix - how it works
If you want to do a data recovery with Knoppix, you can do that easily. We explain what you need for it and how it works.
Knoppix: Create boot CD for data recovery
If you do not yet have a Knoppix CD, you can also download a Knoppix ISO image and then burn it to a CD. Alternatively, you can copy the ISO image to a USB stick.
- Download the Knoppix ISO file.
- Burn or copy the ISO file to a CD or USB stick using the tools mentioned above.
- Remove the CD or stick from the drive or USB port.
Perform data recovery with Knoppix
Since Knoppix is a portable Linux operating system, it can be started directly from a CD or USB stick. For this you need the Knoppix start medium created previously.
- Insert the Knoppix CD or insert the USB stick.
- Restart your PC.
- Wait for the boot logo to appear and press the appropriate key to enter the boot menu. Alternatively, you can change the boot order via the BIOS. If you do this, however, this setting will be saved permanently and you would have to undo it afterwards.
- Select Knoppix from the boot menu. You may see "USB" or your CD drive instead of "Knoppix". Then select the appropriate one and confirm with "Enter".
- Wait for Knoppix to start up. The desktop will appear after a while.
- Navigate to the menu and click on the file manager or file browser.
- You will now see all hard drives and partitions.
- Click on your Windows partition and open it.
- The folder structure should now look like Windows and you have the option of accessing all files.
- Copy the data to be saved to an external storage medium such as a hard disk.
