Many apps consume the data volume faster than one would like. The well-known music streaming provider Deezer is no exception. In this practical tip we explain to you what data consumption is to be expected and how you can contain it.
Deezer: You should expect this data consumption
To access the quality settings, open the Deezer app, tap on “My Music”, then on “Settings”. Press here on »Audio Settings«. You will now see a number of streaming quality options. You can find out what these mean here:
- In the "Compact" option, you can stream at a bit rate of 128 kbit / s. This means that 128 kilobits per second are transmitted in this setting. Extrapolated to an hour, that's just under 60 megabytes. Basically, the higher the bit rate, the better the quality and the higher the data consumption.
- The "Improved" setting streams at 320 kbit / s and thus takes about 140 megabytes an hour. Everyone has to decide for themselves whether such a high bit rate is really necessary. What is certain, however, is that 128 kbit / s is absolutely sufficient for most people.
- Furthermore Deezer offers the option "balanced". You stream over the mobile network at 128 kbit / s. If you are connected to a WiFi network, the streaming quality is automatically increased to 320 kbit / s.
- You can also use the custom option in the Deezer app to set the bitrate at which you stream. To save data volume, it is recommended to set the bit rate to 64 kbit / s. This setting should still be enough for most, while eating up just under 30 megabytes an hour.
