With Davinci Resolve you can create different video transitions, so-called transitions, which otherwise only expensive programs offer. In this article we show you how to do it.
Use simple overlay
If you only want to show another video briefly in your film, it is useful to use the video layers at Davinci Resolve. In the finished film, the top level has priority.
- Place your main film on the first video level and the clip you want to display on the second level.
- As soon as you move the mouse over the second video, you can see white pointers on the right and left of the video track.
- Select it with the mouse and drag the pointer to the center of the clip. How to choose the duration of the transition.
- You can do the same on the other side to gently hide the video.
- The practice also works between two clips in a video track, but makes little sense. You can first hide one video in black and fade in the next video in black - the viewer only pulls "black" for a short time.
Use effects library
Of course, you can also use other transitions to give expression to your video. Davinci Resolve provides you with an entire library.
- Click on "Effects Library" in the top left - a corresponding tab appears under the File Manager.
- Select the "Video Transitions" menu in the new tab on the left or simply scroll down.
- Select the desired transition and simply drag it to the desired position with the mouse. This is shown in the timeline as a white square.
- You can determine the length of the transition by dragging this square on the sides.
