DayZ: Is the standalone version worth it?

After the ARMA mod "DayZ" has already achieved cult status, the improved standalone version now follows. We will tell you whether this is worthwhile for you in our practical tip.
The most important innovations of the DayZ standalone version
- Nice graphics: Based on the further developed engine of "ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead", the animations run more smoothly and the game world and characters look much more detailed.
- Less hackers: In the DayZ-Mod, it was a piece of cake for any reasonably experienced computer player to cheat benefits and create chaos. The standalone version transfers important game calculations to the server, making hackers and cheaters almost impossible.
- New crafting system: In order to better experience the feeling of survival, you can now assemble objects yourself. For example, you cannot simply collect a map to display the map, but first have to find the scattered parts and then combine them.
- Credible zombies: While zombies in the mod variant of bugs could attack through walls and even lag behind the intelligence cliché of their species, the standalone "DayZ" provides a remedy. The zombies seem more "realistic" primarily because of the new path. In addition, there are many new skins available, which is why you rarely meet opponents who look the same.
- Better support: Since it is no longer just a hobby project, you can expect much quicker help with problems and errors. Regular patches should also appear over the years.
- Versatile map: The "Chernarus +" map has been completely redesigned and appears less sterile. Thanks to over 40 cities, you have a lot to explore.
- These were just the most important innovations in the standalone version. In addition, you will, for example, enter many more buildings, dress your character individually and benefit from the new inventory system. In the future, even the basic building will move into the game.
Wait for the official release
Before you buy "DayZ" now, we advise you to be patient. At the moment (as of January 8, 2014), the survival MMO is still in the alpha phase. That means it is far from finished and littered with errors. Even Dean Hall, the project manager, advises gamers not to buy the game in its current state. You should wait at least until the beta phase to purchase.
You can refresh your gaming experience with the classic "DayZ" thanks to the best mods.
