DayZ: Performance optimization for more FPS
In this practical tip we explain some performance optimizations for the game "DayZ" so that you get more FPS and can play more smoothly. In addition to the in-game graphics options, there are other options outside of the game. Precisely because the standalone version is still in the alpha phase, there are still significant performance problems.
In-game graphics options for better performance
To access the graphics options of "DayZ", click on "Configure" in the main menu and then on "Video". The tips apply to weaker to medium-strong PCs - with high-end PCs you can also use higher settings.
- You can easily do without VSync and therefore also deactivate it to save some performance.
- It is best to set "Graphics memory" to "Auto". Then it automatically recognizes how much graphics memory your graphics card has.
- "Texture Detail" and "Texture Filtering" set them to the highest possible value that your graphics card allows. The textures have the greatest impact when playing, because at a higher setting everything looks much sharper.
- "Objects" and "Terrain" should be set to "low" or "very low" if you do not have a particularly powerful gaming PC.
- "Clouds" have a big impact on visibility at night. For a better view, you should set the highest possible value here.
- You should set the anti-aliasing anti-aliasing to a low level in order to be able to play more smoothly. You should disable it for maximum performance.
- The remaining values under "Rendering" should also be set to "very low" or deactivated.
Optimize DayZ configuration file for more FPS
You can easily change the configuration file and also undo it. To do this, you should copy the configuration file and save it in another location before changing it.
- The location of the configuration file is: "Documents / DayZ / Dayz.cfg".
- Open the file with the conventional editor.
- Change the values of the following lines to "1":
- GPU_MaxFramesAhead = 1;
- GPU_DetectedFramesAhead = 1;
- With [Ctrl] + [S] you save the file and apply the changes for "DayZ".
Change Steam start parameters for DayZ
In Steam you can also set some start parameters that optimize "DayZ".
- First, right click on the game in your Steam library. In the drop-down menu, click on "Properties" and then on "Set start options ...".
- You simply have to enter the following commands in the text field without spaces or quotation marks.
- "-cpuCount = 4" specifies the number of your processor cores. For two cores, choose "-cpuCount = 2".
- With "-maxMem = 2047" the game can use more memory. However, 2 GB is the maximum.
- "-noBenchmark" prevents Benschmarks from being created automatically.
- "-noLogs" prevents the automatically created logs.
- "-noSplash" blocks the intro when the game starts.
- "-exThreads = 7" optimizes the game for quad-core processors, while "-exThreads = 3" improves the game for dual-core processors.
