Flash Dbox2 - Here's how
If you want to install an update for your Dbox2, you cannot avoid flashing in the long run. We'll show you how.
You need this to flash your Dbox2
- Of course you need your Dbox2.
- You should also have a so-called null modem. This is a crossed serial cable.
- You also need a PC with a network card or OnBoard LAN.
- You connect your Dbox2 directly to the PC using a crossover cable. Alternatively, you can also use a hub to connect to the Ethernet hub using normal LAN cables. Experience has shown that a switch is less suitable.
- In addition, you have to get the Dbox boot manager.
- Finally, you need the image to be flashed.
Flash Dbox2: preparation
- Copy the new image to a location where there are no spaces in the file path. This applies to all folders, not just the directly higher-level one. It is best to create a new folder directly on the hard drive C: \ - for example "C: \ dbox \ image.img".
- Your network should be configured so that both your PC and your Dbox2 keep their respective IP addresses (usually starting with 192.168.2.xxx), even if the devices are switched off and on again. Create an IP assignment in the router that is linked to the MAC addresses of the devices.
- Connect the PC and the Dbox2 either directly to each other using the crossover cable or to the hub using normal LAN cables.
- In addition, connect your PC directly to the Dbox2 using the null modem.
- Open the Dbox2 boot manager.
Flash the Dbox2
- Set the exact IP of your Dbox2 in the network under "Settings". Place a checkmark under "COM port" under "Open" and set the dropdowns behind it to "COM1" and "9600". Make sure that there are no ticks in the settings.
- Now click on the "Utilities" tab on the left and then on the "Flash image" button. Select your file from the file selection menu (in our case "C: \ dbox \ image.img"). Confirm by clicking on "Open". The Dbox boot manager then asks you again to confirm by clicking "Ok".
- Now plug in your Dbox2 or restart it by pressing "Standby" and "Arrow up" simultaneously on the remote control. You can recognize the flashing process by the logo on the flashbox and the message on the television.
- The flash process takes about 10 minutes. During this time, some information is displayed in the Dbox Boot Manager. The flash process is complete when a confirmation window appears again. Click "Ok" again to complete the flash process.
