In Hideo Kojima's quirky Death Stranding game project, lead Sam has a baby in a tank in front of his chest. We explain what this is about and how it is relevant to the plot.
The Baby in Death Stranding: Key to the Dead
In Death Stranding, you have to move things from A to B in post-apocalyptic America. So that this does not get boring too quickly, there is the "other side", the world of the dead. And the baby that Sam always carries around in his tank in front of his chest is connected to this very world.
- The child is not from Sam. Rather, he uses it as a key to locate beings from "the other side".
- Thanks to the infant, Sam can establish a connection to the "other side" and locate BTs, so-called beached things or "stranded things".
What else we know about the baby in Death Stranding
The child's mother died at birth, so it has the ability to connect to the world of the dead. The highlight: this connection is only possible as long as the "newborn" is in an artificial womb.
- That is why the baby is always in this tank. This artificial womb also has to be updated regularly.
- It is so important for the plot, because Sam has to pay special attention to it. For example, if the baby starts to cry, Sam has to calm it down. The player does this by weighing the baby with the controller.
