Debian: Add user - how to add users
In Debian, you can easily add a new user with the "add user" command. We'll show you exactly how that works.
How to add users on Debian
- To add a user in Debian, you must be logged in as root.
- Enter "adduser" in the console followed by the name of the new user. The command is therefore "adduser NAME" and confirm with the Enter key.
- The system now creates the new user. You will next be asked to set a new UNIX password. After confirmation you have to enter and confirm this password again.
- In the following you can enter the full name, a room number, a business as well as a private telephone number and further entries under "Other". If you want to skip one or more points, press the [Return] key without entering anything.
- Finally, the system asks whether the entries are correct. Once you have checked everything, confirm with the [J] key and the new user is added.
In the next practical tip of our Debian series, we will show you how to set up VNC servers under Debian.
