Debian: delete user - how it works
If you no longer need one of your user accounts on Debian, you can delete it with just one command. We show you how to do this.
Delete users on Debian
- First open the terminal using the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [T].
- Now enter the command "sudo deluser XXX" and confirm with the [Enter] key.
- For the placeholder "XXX" insert the name of the desired user. This is then deleted.
- The home directory is retained. You can delete this with the command "sudo deluser --remove-home XXX".
- If you want to create a backup of the user beforehand, use the "sudo deluser --backup XXX" command.
- Complete removal of all associated files is achieved with the command "sudo deluser --remove-all-files XXX".
