Debian: Find out and change hostname
You can display and change the host name under Debian. We show you step by step how to do it.
Show hostnames under Debian
- Open the terminal and enter "hostname" on the command line.
- The command "hostname -f" outputs the full hostname sam FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name).
Debian: change hostname - so it'll work
You can change the host name under Debian during operation or permanently.
- To change the hostname during operation, enter the command "hostname" in the terminal and the new name after it. So the command is "hostname NEWER_NAME".
- If you want to change the host name permanently, you can edit it with any editor. The hostname is in the "/ etc / hostname" file.
- To be able to make the change immediately, simply use the script that is also executed when the system is started. To do this, enter "/etc/init.d/hostname.sh" in the terminal.
