Debian Unzip: Unzip archives using the console
On servers or desktop PCs with Debian as a Linux distribution, you may have to unzip archives in the terminal using unzip. We'll show you exactly how to do it.
Debian Unzip: Unzip archives using the console
Sometimes you have no choice and you have to use the command line. For example, if you don't have a graphical user interface, but only an SSH shell. But unpacking a ZIP archive is no problem here either:
- Most distributions like Debian already have the "unzip" program installed. Otherwise you can make up for this requirement by entering "sudo apt-get install unzip" in the terminal and confirming.
- Otherwise, navigate to the directory in which the archive is located that you want to unzip. In the screenshot, for example, the archive "Praxistipp.zip" is in the "Chip" folder on the desktop.
- With the command "unzip Praxistipp.zip" you extract the contents of the archive. The example is the "Praxistipp.txt" file.
- You can get an overview of the many parameters that you can specify by simply typing "unzip".
