Repair the defective USB stick in the oven
If a USB stick suddenly stops working, good advice is expensive. We present two home remedy methods - the "cold" repair with scotch tape and the "hot" in the oven.
Fix USB stick with Tesa
There are two ways to save important data from the USB stick - but in any case you must first carefully remove the stick housing. Then wrap the memory chips tightly with scotch tape. In this way, the memory modules are pressed firmly onto their contacts. If the stick works again, copy all the data as quickly as possible.
Bake, bake USB stick
If this method does not lead to success, there is a last chance - but be careful, the device can also be irretrievably destroyed!
- Place the USB stick in the (preheated) oven for five minutes at 200 ° C. In this way the solder melts and so all contacts are re-soldered at the same time.
- It is also important here that all plastic housing parts have been removed beforehand.
- If the memory chips are only soldered on one side of the board, put them up. The plastic in the USB connector should survive the short Rosskur undamaged.
- When the five minutes are up, switch off the stove and open the oven door. Let the stick cool in place without moving it. After about 30 minutes you can remove the memory stick and try out whether the rescue measure worked.
- Important: Afterwards, be sure to clean your oven. We will explain how to do this in the next tip.
In a home tip, we explain what can be the reason if your oven is smoking.
