We use a number pad both on the PC and on telephones. However, it is striking that the numbers are arranged differently. In this practical tip, we will tell you what is behind it.

On a telephone or smartphone, the numbers 1 to 3 start in the top line. On the computer, however, the low numbers start in the bottom row.
- With old dial telephones, the numbers 0 to 9 were still arranged in a row. With the modern keypad phones, the numbers had to be rearranged. For the sake of simplicity, the numbers 1, 2 and 3 were started above. In an emergency, 112 can be found intuitively.
- The first button-type telephone was released in Germany in 1977. The first home computers were available a few years earlier. They were mainly used for calculations. The number pad was therefore taken over by the calculator, in which the numbers also rise from the bottom up.
