German quotation marks in Google Drive / Docs
In our practical tip, we explain how you can use German quotes in Google Drive or Google Docs.
Install "lower" goose feet in Google Docs
Unfortunately, it has not yet been possible to place German quotation marks in Google Drive or the word processing software Google Docs. Every time you use the key, the introductory quotation marks are placed at the top instead of at the bottom, as is customary in German. The following explains how to set the correct goose feet without laboriously installing each one by hand.
- First, write your text completely. First, simply ignore the incorrectly positioned quotes.
- As soon as your text is finished, select the "Edit" tab and the "Find and replace" option at the bottom. If you use Google Docs in German, the options are "Edit" or "Find and replace".
- A window opens with two input options. Under "Search" enter the quotation mark placed above, while under "Replace with" enter the quotation mark "below. Simply copy the quotation mark below from here and paste it into Google Drive by right-clicking and pasting.
- Google Drive now looks for all quotes. Use the "Back" and "Next" buttons to switch between all quotation marks found in your document. You can now use the "Replace" button to replace the "wrong" quotation marks with the correctly placed one.
