Top up German prepaid card abroad - is that possible?
In this practical tip, we reveal whether you can top up your German prepaid card abroad.
Prepaid cards cannot be charged directly abroad - there are alternatives
Abroad you cannot go to the local mobile phone shop and top up your prepaid credit. But there are several solutions for getting credit on your phone:
- Good preparation is everything: You can simply take a credit card from your provider with you at home and top it up if necessary. The credit cards are usually valid for one year.
- If you are in acute need of credit, you can send an SMS to a friend or relative. You can have the credit number sent to you by SMS or it will be loaded directly from the shop onto your cell phone number.
Do it yourself - top up prepaid card online
Abroad you may have WLAN in the hotel or in the pension and can therefore use the Internet cheaply / free of charge. You can also search for an internet cafe or library on site to access the internet.
- Many providers offer an online top-up service, for example Vodafone, T-Mobile, E-Plus, Aldi-Talk or Klarmobil.
