DHL-Mail: Spam or not - this is how you recognize the fake
Many spam mails are currently circulating with alleged DHL package announcements. The emails are copied well, which is why a lot of people have fallen for the scam. This practical tip explains how you can recognize the fake and protect yourself reliably from spam mails.
DHL-Mail: Spam or not - this is how you recognize the fake
As with real e-mail, the subject of the fake is the title "Parcel announcement for your shipment ...". In addition, a link is included with which you can track your supposedly ordered package. If you click on this, malware is loaded onto your computer. The appearance of DHL spam mails is constantly changing. For example, the fake has recently included a note that you should have a cash on delivery contribution ready. However, you can safely expose the spam email based on some evidence. At the bottom of the picture gallery we have put together an overview of some mail forgeries.
- Ask yourself the question: Do I expect a shipment at all? If you are no longer completely sure, check the orders from the online shops where you recently ordered something.
- Take a closer look at the sender of the email. Usually this is " ". With spam mail, the sender is a private individual or a cryptic name such as " ". Click once on the sender to get the real address and not just the name.
- If you drive over the hyperlink in the email, you will see the internet address to which you will be forwarded. With real DHL mail, the address begins with "//nolp.dhl.de/". This is not the case with counterfeiting.
- If the email contains spelling errors or is in English, this is also an indication of a spam email.
- Copy the tracking number contained in the email to the clipboard and paste it into the search line on the DHL website. If the tracking number cannot be found, it is a fake email.
- If the email contains a PDF file or other attachments, you should not download it to your computer. DHL never sends PDFs or similar in the package announcements.
- The cover letter can also indicate a forgery. In April 2017, some versions of the fake mail had the subject "Your package will arrive on Monday, 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m."
Received spam mail from DHL - what to do?
- In order to protect other users from the dangers of spam mail, you can forward the email to " ". You should then delete the email.
- Add the real sender of the package announcements, ie " " to your contacts. So you can easily differentiate between fake and original, should a DHL spam email slip through the spam filter.
- Activate a spam filter for your email programs, such as "Thunderbird".
