The best Easter Eggs in OpenOffice Calc
In OpenOffice Calc you can discover lots of fun Easter eggs. We'll show you how to find the features hidden by programmers!
Calc Easter Eggs: Find hidden developer games
Most of the Easter eggs in OpenOffice Calc are games or images from the development team. Unfortunately, most of them no longer work under version 4.0, so this practical tip refers to version 3.2.
- Many Easter eggs are all about games: For example, if you type "= GAME ()" (with quotation marks) in a cell and confirm with [Enter], you will get a friendly "Say what?" back. This is an allusion to the fact that the function does not yet contain any parameters. You can see this from the fact that the brackets are still empty.
- If you now type "Froggie" in the brackets behind the function, the output will initially only be "Froggie". If you now enter the same in another cell, the output "oh no, not again!" Appears.
- But now to the games: The first playable Easter egg is TicTacToe. To do this, enter "= GAME (A2: C4;" TicTacToe ")" in cell A1. "A2" indicates the top left corner and C4 the bottom left corner of the field. If you confirm with [Enter], you can play against the PC. All you have to do is write an "X" in the field and confirm.
- The developer’s most elaborate Easter Egg is a small space invaders game. You can call it up by writing "= GAME (" StarWars ")" in any cell. There is even a character choice. But be careful: if you want to close the window and play again, you have to restart OpenOffice first. Unfortunately, the function was removed from OpenOffice 3.3.
Find Easter Eggs in OpenOffice - Here's how
Of course, the makers of OpenOffice didn't just hide games in your program. Images and the answers of life have also crept in:
- Just like with Google, OpenOffice has the answer to everything. According to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" this is the number 42. Calc spits out this answer when you type the command "= ANSWER (" Life, the universe and all the rest ")".
- If you always wanted to see who programmed Calc, just enter "= STARCALCTEAM ()" in a cell. A photo of the StarCalc team appears during a cozy picnic in the sand.
- With the command "= TTT ()" you can make a random smiley appear in the corresponding cell.
