You can report any theft, but you don't have to. Unless you insured the stolen items. If you want to report the theft, the nearest police station is a good place to place the complaint.
Reporting theft - you should be aware of that
Even if you can basically report any theft to the police, it is not always worth it.
- If money has been stolen from you, you will probably never see it again. Nobody will replace the damage for you. The same applies to barely identifiable products or items that are not particularly valuable.
- Of course, the police have to record the report if you want to. However, you can assume that the whole matter will only cost you unnecessary time.
- If stolen items are insured, you must report them promptly. The insurance will only compensate you for the damage if you enclose a copy of the theft report with the damage report.
- If important papers (e.g. ID card) have been stolen, you must report this immediately. If criminal offenses are committed with your papers and you have not reported the theft, you would have to expect trouble.
- In short: some thefts should be reported immediately, others you can give yourself the effort, unless you have plenty of time.

Reporting theft - this information is important
If you have stolen items that are insured or are items that can be easily identified, you should report the theft immediately.
- It is optimal if you have photos of the stolen objects and take the pictures with you.
- If you still have proof of purchase and / or certificates, you should also include copies of them in the advertisement.
- You should also make a note of all the striking features of the stolen items so that you don't forget anything when you report the theft (e.g. an engraved number on a bicycle, personal engravings on jewelry).
- Note: It is often also possible to report theft via the Internet.
