There are foods that you should never warm up - otherwise they could be harmful to your health. In this article we have summarized the dangerous foods for you.
You should never reheat these foods: an overview
What should you watch out for when reheating food? There are unanimous opinions and a lot of contradicting statements. Some foods are actually unsuitable for warming up and can even be dangerous. Cooks consider warming up most foods to be safe.
Food # 1: potatoes
This is the case with warmed up potatoes, for example. You can get food poisoning if you don't remove the green spots on the potato. These are caused by the Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which also poses health risks when the potato is cooked normally. If you heat up such a potato, the bacteria multiply instead of dying.
Food # 2: poultry and mushrooms
Poultry and mushrooms should only be consumed cold or warmed up at very low temperatures. It is important here that the time after the first cooking process is not too long ago - mushrooms, like chicken, are also very susceptible to salmonella. Poultry is inherently more vulnerable than other types of meat. The proteins in poultry meat change overnight in the refrigerator and can upset the stomach when consumed. It is of course best if you consume these foods on the same day - and only if you have stored them properly and correctly.
Food # 3: rice and noodles
Even before cooking, rice can contain spores that are not killed by heating. This infestation can happen to any food. Let cooked rice cool in the fridge. This is how you make warming up safer. Do the same with pasta from the day before. But the same applies here - the sooner you eat and reheat after cooking, the safer you are.
Food # 4: beetroot, turnips, celery, spinach ...
Beetroot, turnips and celery contain nitrates, which are transformed into dangerous nitrites when they are warmed up. Therefore, enjoy the cooked vegetables on the same day if possible. Warm up dishes with these foods, remove them beforehand. Spinach is also affected if you don't store it properly beforehand. You can find out more in the video. These foods live, among other things, from fertilizers. There are higher and lower nitrate levels there, as most beet varieties grow in the soil or very close to the soil. Certainly this is one of the reasons that the higher values suggest caution.
- The general tip is that you should use your smell and taste senses. These help you distinguish whether something is bad or not. You don't necessarily smell bacteria. So if you find something you don't like about food, you'd better throw it away.
