Dirndl and Tracht: what sins you should avoid
Too short, too colorful, too revealing: you can go wrong with wearing a dirndl or a traditional costume. We will tell you which sins you should avoid and why you should never tie the bow of the apron at the front.
The absolute sin when wearing a dirndl and traditional dress
Dirndls with a belly button-deep neckline or traditional costumes in a hot pants look are among the sins that you should definitely avoid.
- With single ladies in particular, the motto is often: less is more. Dispensing with a blouse under a dirndl is really not possible and is an absolute no-go. The dirndl should also go at least to the knee.
- What applies to women also applies to men: very tight and very short shakira-style lederhosen have not lost anything at a folk festival and hot pants are more of a woman's leg anyway.
Colorful dirndl with a clown look
Colors are of course allowed in dirndls. But don't overdo it.
- Do not combine too many different shades and match the color of the blouse and apron to your dirndl.
- You should also hold back when applying make-up and choose a natural, subtle make-up.
- Since a dirndl is usually quite playful, you don't need to hang yourself like a Christmas tree. An elegant costume necklace and simple earrings are sufficient.
Traditional flip-flops: simply sinful
It is hard to believe, but in times of diversity and gender equality, there also seems to be a lot of freedom when it comes to fashion. Equal rights and individuality or not: For us, wearing flip-flops with traditional clothes is a sin.
- Sneakers, flip-flops or cowboy boots are neither part of the dirndl nor of lederhosen.
- A dirndl is best combined with flat, black or brown shoes, for example ballerinas. Of course, high shoes are also allowed.
- And for men the following applies: Haferl shoes must be. They simply go best with the costume.
The infamous loop question
Very important when tying the apron bow: Don't raise false hopes for the opposite sex!
- Tie the bow on the right, you should be immune to flirting maneuvers, because that means you are forgiven (or don't feel like a tech quack).
- Tying the bow on the left signals more openness: you are single and willing.
- If you want to tie your apron at the front, you should think twice, because that means: I am a virgin.
- And for the older semesters: tying the bow on your back means that you are a widow.
