Set up dLAN - how it works
If you want to set up a dLAN network at home, it's relatively easy. Apart from the dLAN adapters, you generally do not need any other tools.
Step 1: Set up the dLAN adapter on the router
- To set up the dLAN network, you first need your router. This is usually already connected and connected to the Internet.
- Now you need a LAN cable to connect the router and the dLAN adapter. The cable must at least reach the nearest socket.
- If the router is connected to the adapter via a LAN cable, you can plug it into the socket. Your router now also sends the Internet signal via your electricity network.
- Note: If both dLAN adapters are built the same, it does not matter which of the two you use here. If the adapters look different, read the instructions to find out which adapter is connected directly to the router.
Step 2: Set up the second dLAN adapter
- Now select another socket in your house or apartment. If you plug the dLAN adapter into the socket, it automatically receives the signal.
- With some devices, you also have to press a switch on the adapter to make the connection. Now you can supply other devices, such as a computer, with Internet via a LAN cable.
- Somewhat more expensive models have an integrated WLAN module. The dLAN adapter thus receives the signal from the socket and sends it out again via LAN and WLAN. The range of your WiFi network can thus be increased. Alternatively, you can also connect a normal dLAN adapter to a WLAN repeater (see picture).
Notes on using the dLAN adapter
- Some adapters are supplied with additional software. You can use this to make further settings. However, these settings are usually not relevant for normal use.
- For a good signal, both adapters should be attached to the socket as directly as possible. If you use an extension cable, as few consumers as possible should hang on it.
- Of course, you can also use more than just two adapters. In theory, you can connect a dLAN adapter to any socket in your 4 walls.
