DLC: That means the abbreviation
In the meantime, hardly a large computer game can do without DLCs. Very few people know the meaning behind the term. We clarify it.
Abbreviation DLC: that's the reason
The abbreviation DLC stands for Downloadable Content. These are extensions for computer games, which in many cases are chargeable.
- A DLC is usually not released until a few weeks after the game's release. The expansion can contain completely new game content such as missions and weapons, or just small cosmetic changes such as outfits.
- Depending on the scope and content of the DLC, the price is also based. In the rarest of cases, a DLC is free, often between 2 and 20 euros are due. This means that developers can still generate income after the game has actually been sold.
- A DLC is always only available for download. The extension is purchased, downloaded and added to the game through the respective platform such as Steam, Origin, Xbox Live or PlayStation Network.
- It is not uncommon for several DLCs to appear for one game over time. With a so-called Season Pass, players receive all future and mostly all previous DLCs at a discounted price.
- Since good money can be made with DLCs, some game developers have already received strong criticism. In some cases, complete game modes or even the final end of the game were outsourced to a paid DLC, although the purchase price of the game was already 60 euros.
