Open .docx file with OpenOffice - does that work?
The word files have been called .docx since 2007 - those who now use the free OpenOffice can no longer open these files. This is how it works anyway.
Open Docx file with OpenOffice
- Right-click to select the .docx file so that a small menu opens.
- Now select the "open with" function. If "OpenOffice.org Writer" can already be selected there, you can open the file directly by clicking this button.
- Otherwise, click on "Select standard program" and use the "Browse" button to find the OpenOffice.org Writer program on your hard drive.
- Alternatively, you can also open the .docx file directly in OpenOffice via "Open" (Ctrl + O) if you change the criterion to "All files" after the file name field.
You can download OpenOffice from CHIP free of charge here. Tested under OpenOffice 3.4.1 and Microsoft Office Word 2010.
