Don't Starve: Build the base - the best tips
A good basis for survival is essential in Don't Starve. With our tips on basic construction and some examples, you can create a perfect and secure basis right from the start.
Don't Starve: The best location for a base
Tactics are always in demand in Don't Starve. This also applies to the basic building. You shouldn't just place your dwelling somewhere at the start of the game.
- Instead, before building the base, you should first inquire about the map and collect important resources. In another article we have listed the 3 best beginner tips for Don't Starve, with which you can find everything you need for basic construction in no time at all.
- Your base should be close to buffalos and different landscapes. Buffaloes are usually found in the savannah, where rabbits also have their burrows.
- You have a free choice of landscapes: for example, there is a desert. Here you can work with the pickaxe and collect stones, gold and flints. A swamp with ponds is also helpful because you can fish here. We have summarized how you can get through the winter in a special article.
Don't Starve: How to build a base
In Don't Starve, each base has two important components: a campfire and the science machine. With these two structures, you can build the rest of your base. As an example, you will find a safe and successful basis in our picture gallery.
- It is important, especially in the case of hound attacks, to secure the base appropriately. Traps, stone walls or the like are suitable for this. If you play Wigfrid, you can basically defend the base yourself. Just make sure that you have enough resources to build a new Wigfrid spear or helmet.
- Your base should have different wings or departments, each with its own purpose. For example, in a corner you can build farms that also deliver new fruit and vegetables in winter. In another wing you can plant a few trees, which then provide a constant supply of firewood and timber.
- Above all, make sure to leave enough space between the individual structures. If a tree catches fire, it can sometimes burn down the entire base. So you always have a plan B: Instead of a tree group, simply create two or three in your base.
- Also note that you have to re-fertilize grasses or berry bushes before they grow again in your base. Saplings, on the other hand, grow back on their own if you re-plant them.
- There are no limits to the division of your base. You are free to choose where the farms and where the berry bushes go. If you want, you can also dig out the inside of the base with a pitchfork, making it easier to mark on the map.
