Can without can opener: Ingenious tricks for opening
There are a few tricks for opening a can without a can opener. We'll introduce you to a few methods you can use to crack any canned food.
Open can without can opener - one knife is enough
If a can opener is missing in the kitchen, you will surely find a knife in the drawer.
- A cutlery knife is not enough, it must be a stable, pointed kitchen knife with a secure grip. You shouldn't slip.
- Place the can on the table or the work surface so that it cannot slip away. Place the tip of the knife at the top of the can. It is important that you hold the knife vertically and have it firmly in your hand.
- Now hit the hand holding the knife with one hand. How to make a small hole in the can.
- Move the tip of the knife a little bit at the edge of the can. Now hit the top of your hand again to punch the next hole right next to the first hole in the can lid.
- Repeat this procedure until the entire edge of the lid is perforated. Then you should be able to easily remove the lid.
The spoon trick
With the knife method, there is a risk of injury if you slip.
- If you want to avoid this, use a spoon instead of the knife - that works too.
- The can must also be stable here, hold the can firmly with one hand. In the other hand, take a spoon with the tip pointing down.
- Now place the tip of the spoon on the inner edge of the can, with the inward-curved side of the spoon facing the middle of the can.
- Hold the tip of the spoon in one place and move the spoon to the right and left with a little pressure - the tip will remain in the same place. Due to the friction and pressure, the sheet becomes thinner and a small hole is created.
- If you continue moving the spoon as described, the hole will become larger. Then move the spoon a little and repeat the whole process until the can is fully opened.
Lifehack: Sand the can
On the way you hardly have a knife or a spoon at hand.
- You can still open a can. Cans are usually made of aluminum - and aluminum is not only light, but also soft.
- That is why a can can also be "rubbed on". You only need a rough flooring, paving stones are good.
- Hold the can with the lid down and rub it over the surface. Apply a little pressure. This will sand the protruding edge of the can.
- As soon as you notice that the edge is loosening in some places, turn the can upside down - otherwise the contents will land on the floor. Try carefully whether you can already press the lid into the can and thus loosen it completely. If that doesn't work yet, you still have to rub a little.
