DotA 2 Guide: Play Techies offlane
Techies is one of the most controversial heroes in DotA 2. In this Techies guide, we show you how to play the minelayer on the off-lane to give your team space and disrupt the opponent's carry.
DotA 2: Item build for techies on the off-lane
Start your DotA-2 game with a zero talisman, a clarity potion and a town portal scroll. Instantly teleport to the T1 tower using the Town Portal Scroll and walk down the lane to lay the first mine. You can find out how to place your mines in the second section.
- Place the Soul Ring in your quick purchase bar as the second item. If possible, you should buy the Sage's Mask first, then the Ring of Regeneration and finally the recipe. Let the courier bring this to you - the other items are available in the site shop.
- When your soul ring is ready, save for tranquil boots. Get the Boots of Speed first, then the Ring of Regeneration and finally the Ring of Protection. You can also have this delivered by the courier. If you play techies as a support hero, you might want to buy Arcane Boots to provide mana to your allies. You can disassemble the Arcane Boots later to form an ether lens.
- If your game runs excellently, you can immediately save on the Aghanim's Scepter. Otherwise, you first need a Force Staff, which you can use to quickly approach your opponents and then blow them up with Suicide Squat.
- Your fifth item should be an Eul's Scepter. Buy the Void Stone first to improve your mana regeneration. Collect the remaining components in your warehouse until you have all the parts.
- If the game takes a long time, you can expand your soul ring to a soul booster. If you get gold surprisingly quickly, you can alternatively buy an Octarine Core.
- Instead of the Octarine Core, a desolator helps you destroy towers. However, only buy the desolator if you do not need any more mana and your team does not already have a desolator.
DotA 2: Mine spots for techies on the Dire-Offlane
Below we show you the most important mine spots in the area of the Dire and the Radiant. You can retrace all the mines in the picture gallery. The most important are the mines at the beginning of the game - you need 6 mines on top of each other to kill an enemy at level 1. Later you should put 8 to 10 mines on top of each other.
- The Dire team gives you two options for placing your first mines. Either place them along the off-lane in front of the access to the side shop or in front of the tree that separates the access to the Radiant Easy Camp.
- Then place mines between the trees that face the Jungle of Radiant. Techies thus protects itself from a gank by the opposing supporter.
- Another good mine spot is right on the stairs that lead from your offlane into the river to the middle. Place the mine exactly at the bottom of the stairs.
- Alternatively, you can outsmart your opponents: place 6 to 8 mines in the middle of the off-lane, approximately at the level of the shop. Then always keep the lane pushed. If you let yourself be attacked by an enemy hero, you can run away from him and flee behind the mines. He won't expect to find mines in the middle of the path.
- Later in the game, you can use your bombs to try to occupy creep camps in the enemy jungle. You can kill most heroes with 3 to 4 bombs - you will also receive the gold of the creeps if you kill them at the same time.
Alternative mine spot at the start of the game: rush the medium camp next to the off-lane
With the map update in patch 6.85, a new medium camp was placed near the off-lane. If you want to forego First Blood at the beginning and instead start playing at level 2, you can buy another Clarity instead of a TP. Run with them to the Medium Camp and place 6 mines before the game starts. As soon as the timer reaches 00:30, the creeps die and you reach level 2.
DotA 2: Mine spots for techies on the radiant off-lane
Techies is best served on the Radiant's off-lane. We show you which mine spots you use to make your opponents sweat. You can also see the spots for a radiant techie in the picture gallery.
- You place your first mines on the left edge of the off-lane at the level of the side shop. Place them as close as possible to the trees so that no creeps run into your mines.
- Next, place mines to the right of each tree in the Dire Jungle. You will find it above the hard camp. This spot guarantees you a kill if you want to gank an opposing supporter, pull creeps or if the carry flees from you.
- A defensive spot for mines is below the single tree next to your T1 tower. If you lay 4 to 6 mines slightly to the right, the opposing creeps will not come into contact with them. If you try to chase a hero behind your tower, he runs into the mines and dies - if not, you still have your Suicide Squat.
- Just like in the Dire team, you can place lanes in the middle of the path. Keep the lane pushed and attack the enemy heroes. If one of the heroes attacks you, run away with about half the life points. If a hero follows you, he dies from your mines.
Playstyle with techies in DotA 2
Techies is a disreputable hero because he often only walks across the map and mines. He's only of limited help to his team. Instead, try to develop an aggressive style and dominate your lane. The sooner you reach level 11, the sooner you can conquer the enemy jungle.
- Techies starts with five armor points. He is one of the toughest heroes on level 1. As soon as you reach level 2, you can provocatively attack your opponent - if he also attacks you, kill him with Suicide Squat. You will be back on the lane in a few seconds and can harass the enemy carry.
- Think of techies as an aggressive supporter. Your goal should be to make farming easier for your team. If things are not going well on the other lanes, you can help out with wards or a flying courier.
- Don't wait too long in team fights with your Suicide Squad. If there are three or four heroes in one spot, you should take the chance and unleash your huge area damage.
- Do not put mines on the rune spots. The opponents expect danger anyway and will protect the runes with sentries. Only when you are sure that the runes have not been guarded can you start filling them with mines.
