Dott E-Scooter is the next provider to position itself in the now highly competitive sharing market. The Dutch startup has been renting its e-scooters in Munich since November 2019 - and that's just the beginning.
Dott e-scooter - the startup wants to conquer Germany
After Lime, Circ, Bird, Voi, Tier and Co., the startup Dott now wants to gain a foothold in Germany with its e-scooters. So far, the sharing company, in which Axel Springer Digital Ventures is involved, is present with e-scooters in Paris, Milan, Brussels and Lyon. In Germany, Dott initially rents the electric scooters in Munich.
- The still young company was founded in Amsterdam in 2018. However, the two founders of the startup are by no means unsophisticated when it comes to mobility. Henri Moissinac previously worked at Uber and Maxim Romain was employed at Ofo.
- Dott naturally wants to stand out clearly from the competition and thus advertises to act in a particularly environmentally conscious manner. However, this is neither new nor particularly original. Environmentally friendly is currently very trendy and almost every company tries to adorn itself with the attribute and capitalize on it.
- According to the company, the e-scooters are only used where there is a need. In addition, the scooters should stand out clearly from those of the competition. Dott's e-scooters are said to be particularly stable, making them last much longer.
- In addition, the sharing service advertises that the large wheels of the scooters are characterized by particularly secure traction. Just like the wider decks, they should provide more driving safety and convenience.
- According to Dott, customer data is only stored on servers located in Europe, so that the GDPR applies. Permanent start-up employees take care of the maintenance and repair of the e-scooters.
- Munich should only be the entry into Germany. Dott not only wants to expand further, but also to expand its range with e-bikes.
Rent a Dott e-scooter - how it works
The rental process at Dott hardly differs from that of the other e-scooter sharing providers.
- You need an app to rent an e-scooter. The Dott app is free for both Android and iOS.
- After you have registered, you can start. The app shows you where to find the nearest e-scooter. You can unlock the electric scooter by using the app to scan the barcode attached to the e-scooter.
- The cheapest sharing provider is not Dott. Driving fun costs you 23 cents per minute. There is also a euro for unlocking the e-scooter.
- Otherwise, driving with the electric scooters means that you must comply with the traffic rules. That means: As long as there are bike paths, you drive there and otherwise on the road. Sidewalks, pedestrian zones or parks are taboo for the e-scooter.
