In this practical tip, we will show you how to create DRI photos. With "Dynamic Range Increase" (DRI) images you create a high dynamic range by combining several individual images with different exposure times.
Create DRI photos with a free program
- Preparatory work: Take a series of exposures with the camera and tripod. The tripod is mandatory because the cutouts must be identical. Make sure that the brightest photo shows no overexposed areas. The camera histogram helps here.
- Dynamic range: DRI photos are easiest to create with this free tool. After clicking on "Start" you select the individual photos of the exposure series. The program automatically combines them into a TIF file.
- Voting: In Photoshop, open the image and choose "Image | Adjust | Depths / Highlights". Click "Show More Options" and use the sliders in the "Depths" and "Highlights" areas to work out details from dark and light areas.
