Convert DRM protected music - so it'll work
Even if your purchased music is protected with DRM technology, you can convert it to MP3 format, for example. This allows you to enjoy the songs on devices that do not support DRM protection. Here we show you how to do it.
Record and convert DRM protected music again
The easiest way to do this is to play the music on your computer and record the audio signals while doing so.
- The free tool "No23 Recorder" is suitable for this.
- In the program you will find two dropdown menus on the right.
- Set the top one to "Stereo Mix" so that the audio output is recorded.
- Now you only need to set a format and click on "Record". You can play the DRM-protected music easily with any media player.
- Your music will be recorded and you will receive a file without DRM protection.
- So that the recordings are sufficiently loud, you should turn up the volume completely. It is therefore advisable to connect headphones to your computer when recording and not to put them on.
Burn and convert DRM-backed songs to CD
The disadvantage of recording is clear: With entire albums, the procedure can sometimes take hours. It is quicker if you burn the DRM-protected music to a CD and then copy it back to your computer in MP3 format.
- The "Windows Media Player" is ideally suited for this. This supports the DRM format excellently - since the technology sometimes comes from Microsoft itself.
- Insert a blank CD first.
- Select the "Burn" tab in Windows Media Player.
- Drag the DRM protected songs into the list so that they are burned to the CD.
- Then start the copying process by clicking on "Start burning".
- Then reinsert the CD into the drive.
- If you don't have a burning suit that you can use to extract the songs back to your computer, download the "Ashampoo Burning Studio 2015" program, for example.
- Via the items "Music"> "Rip audio CD" you can now copy the songs back to your PC in MP3 format without DRM protection.
