Dropbox: restore old file version - how it works
If you delete or change a file in Dropbox, you can restore the old version at any time. This way, important data is never lost in the cloud. We'll show you which trick you can use to retrieve your previous files.
Dropbox: Restore old file versions on the web
You can view and restore older versions of every changed file via the Dropbox website.
- To do this, open the Dropbox website in your browser and log in.
- Now right-click on the file to be restored and select the "Version history" option.
- Then select the file version from the list that you want to restore.
- Click "Restore" to restore the old file version.
- Note: If you deleted the file, you must first click the trash can icon in step 2. Then right-click on the desired file and select the "Restore" option. In the pop-up window that appears, click on "Show other versions" and select the desired file version.
Dropbox: Retrieve old file version under Windows
If you use the Dropbox client under Windows, you can also restore your old file versions with just a few clicks.
- To do this, open Windows Explorer with the key combination [Windows] + [E] and navigate to the desired file in your Dropbox folder.
- Click on the file with the right mouse button and select "Version history" from the context menu under "Dropbox".
- Then select the file version you want to restore and click "Restore".
