Dropbox down - what to do?
In this practical tip, we explain what you can do when the dropbox is down.
Server or software down?
First test whether it is the Dropbox client that you have installed on your PC or whether the servers are from Dropbox down.
- To do this, log in to the Dropbox website.
- If this page loads normally and you can log in, you should update or reinstall your Dropbox client.
- If you are unable to register online, read the next sections on what you need to consider.
- If you use Dropbox Portable, we will show you elsewhere how to fix connection errors.
Offline copies by the Dropbox client
The advantage of Dropbox is that you save offline copies of the synchronized data locally on your computer.
- If the folder cannot access the server, it will not update any files. So the old version will remain even if the dropbox is down.
How to sync or share without Dropbox
If the dropbox is down longer, we will show you free alternatives that you can use for bridging:
- If you want to edit a file with others at the same time, Google Drive is suitable. The only condition is that both processors have a Google address. Another article tells you how best to share files in Google Drive.
- We present other free cloud services such as Microsoft OneDrive in another practical tip.
If you can no longer log in because your Dropbox account has been hacked, we will show you another practical tip on how best to proceed.
