Dropbox: Share folders with others
If you would like to share a Dropbox folder with others, the best way to do this is via the cloud service website. Here you can find out briefly how you have to proceed.
Sharing with the Dropbox - How to share a folder
- Visit the Dropbox website with your internet browser and log into your account (via "Login" in the top right corner).
- Now you can see the folder overview of your Dropbox storage. Now right-click on the folder that you want to share with the mouse. Now select the first entry "Invite to folder". Note: For public folders, you can only "share the link", as these are accessible to everyone anyway.
- A new window opens (see screenshot). Here, in the top line, type in the email addresses for which the Dropbox folder is to be shared. Tip: If you click on "Import contacts" in the right row, you can integrate your Gmail, Facebook or Yahoo! mail contacts into Dropbox. You can then select the recipients by name. If you want to enter multiple email addresses, separate them with a comma.
- Make sure that you have checked "Allow users to invite others". This option is activated by default. However, if you want the Dropbox folder to only be shared with others, you should remove the tick.
- In the field below you can optionally enter a message that the recipient should receive. Click "Share folder" to confirm.
- Warning: If you have shared a Dropbox folder with others, they cannot see it directly in their Dropbox. When the folder is released, the recipient receives an email with a link to the Dropbox homepage. The invitation to your Dropbox folder must still be accepted via this. Then your friend or colleague can access the shared folder via the Dropbox on the PC, Mac, Android or iOS device.
