Dropit: unzip ZIP files - so it'll work
In this practical tip, we explain how to unzip ZIP files with the freeware "DropIt".
Unzip ZIP files with DropIt associations
In order to unzip a zip file with DropIt, you have to define a suitable rule and then slide the file onto your DropIt icon. We will explain how this works in detail.
- After you have downloaded and installed "DropIt", right-click on the DropIt icon. It's either on the right of your taskbar or on your desktop.
- Select "Associations" from the open menu.
- Click on the button with the green plus symbol. Now enter a rule.
- Under Name, for example, write "Unzip files".
- For the rule, click on the icon with the blue i-symbol and choose "Examples for files" and there "common archives".
- You set "Extract" as the action. Under the target directory, select the standard path in which your files are to be extracted.
- Then "Save" the new rule and confirm the rule again using the check button.
- You can now, for example, slide ZIP files onto your Dropit icon on the desktop. With the association defined, Dropit unpacks the file for you and then pushes it to the specified location.
